Many people have written to me recently (and with temerity, I might add), saying that if we expend our energies toward ending the war in Iraq, we are diverting our efforts away from the impeachment and conviction of the criminal Bush/Cheney administration.
To this, I say ... NOT!
These same people also have written to me, asking, "if we leave Iraq, aren't we creating another Ruwanda or Somalia?" Finally, they've written to ask why we "academics" have not stood up and spoken out, have not acted. (I'll address this last one at the end of this post.) First things, first:
The efforts to end the Iraq war and to impeach the Bush administration are inseparable.
Those of us who have been activists against the Iraq war since BEFORE it began -- because we knew it was merely rouge on the face of a president who was put in office because of lies -- are the same people who began BEFORE the Iraq war to fight long and hard for the removal of the Bush administration.
There has not been ONE, not ONE, minute of this rank administration's nearly eight years in office that many of us have not done all in our power to open eyes and break hearts with the truth for one strong reason...because there are many Americans who believe the lies. Witness the 2004 election.
And the world? The world has always known the truth that many Americans have hidden from, even before the war in Iraq was forced on them. All we need do is look at our allies in this war...who were they...why didn't we have major countries aligned with us in this effort? And where have the ones who did gone? But here's the REAL thing:
No one, not one person of reason who has had "the major podium," until recently (Olberman on MSNBC), no traditional-stream journalist, no honest politician, no bleeding-heart-big-bucks "celebrity," no think-tank academic has had the real guts, or the ability, to break through the Bush/Cheney censorship and scrape off the heavy makeup of the most corrupt and dangerous government this nation has EVER seen. And the world has not seen, feared, or hated the leader of a nation more, EVER...and, hey, they remember Pol Pot and Diem and Hitler and Stalin and Pinchot and Idi Amin and Milosovich and Samoaza, Peron, the Shah of Iran AND Saddam Hussein.
This is sad.
Actually, it's more than sad; it's frightening, because most Americans feared and loathed these dictators, too. But it's even more frightening because many of these dictators were either created, abetted, or ignored until it was too late, by OUR U.S. government for THEIR benefit, not for the benefit of the people of their nations. Sound familiar?
No, no, my friends, this marrying of the fight to end the Iraq war with the impeachment, arrest, conviction, and imprisonment of the Bush administration is NOT muddying the waters of impeachment; it's calling for an end to a senseless, criminal Executive Branch, and an end to a senseless, criminal war that unnecessarily continues to kill human beings, that ruined a country, and gave voice to the Iraqi's underbelly of hatred for one another.
This is a singular action that takes everyone right to the root of the problem, if they're willing to go.
This is an active and real understanding that IF we did not have THIS president, THIS vice president, THIS pansy-ass Congress at THIS time in history, we wouldn't even have to be worrying about whether we will leave Iraq to a chaos so vile that their inbred killing, which we lit the fire under, would continue to spiral out of control like a stick-thin kite in our storm.
We MUST end this administration NOW! And we must do so by clearly saying NO MORE LIES about Iraq, no more rhetoric about helping them to build a democracy that would aid them in running a smooth government, a loving, healthy country. Ain't gonna happen, folks. We ARE the belly of the storm, sucking the life out of our own people, and theirs, with lies and obfuscation.
The rouge must come off NOW.
No more talking heads in designer clothing. The truth must be fought for and won by our activism to end this Bush presidency that ruins countries, as we end our role in HIS Iraq war, a war that more than likely has no end. If we do not fight for this truth, aligned to impeach AND to end the Iraq war, we will lose our own proud democracy, if we haven't already. The actions of our U.S. Executive Branch and the inaction of our U.S. Congress have crippled our U.S. Constitution, our country, and much of the world.
So...this academic is ready to run against any member of the U.S. government who supports the Bush administration AND the war in Iraq AND any other lie, in any way. This is a promise many of you know I will keep.
Bring it on!
